Huntington Moratorium Extended

The Huntington Town Board voted to extend its building
moratorium on golf courses in the town, but also
exempted 41 acres in Dix Hills, the proposed site for
30 single-family homes.

The House Beautiful Civic Association and homeowners
on Ryder Avenue have endorsed the plan, first unveiled
in 2005 by Manhattan-based Hakimian Organization,
where the former Half Hollow Golf Course property is
located. Apparently neighbors were tired of living
across from the fenced vacant lot, which occasionally
attracted vandals, according to Bram Weber of the
Weber Law Group in Melville, which represented
Hakimian.

The Hakimian plan will donate six acres of open space
to the town. The developer will go before the
Huntington planning board for preliminary subdivision
approval after Aug. 8, when the six-month extension to
the already 18-month long moratorium begins.

Huntington first enacted the moratorium when the
Hakimian plan and another development planned for the
Cold Spring Country Club were floated before the board.
